Advanced Relative Linking in Spanish: choices and models
| Decision | Guidance | Model |
|---|---|---|
| Use advanced Spanish relative linking for a whole proposition | After a comma, use lo cual or lo que to refer to the entire preceding clause. Do not use a gendered relative when the antecedent is a proposition rather than one noun. |
| Keep the intended antecedent adjacent and unique | Place a relative clause next to its antecedent and repeat the head noun when another compatible noun intervenes. Punctuation distinguishes restrictive identification from added comment. |
The model illustrates the decision; preserve its meaning and discourse effect when adapting it.
