Using Ser for Identity, Origin, and Profession
Use ser when saying who someone is, where they are from, or what they do. These ideas describe identity rather than a temporary condition.
Use ser for identity
Use soy for yo, eres for tú, es for él, ella, or usted, somos for nosotros, sois for vosotros, and son for ellos, ellas, or ustedes.

Use ser with de for origin
The pattern ser + de tells where a person or thing comes from. Nationality adjectives also normally use ser.
Somos de Ucrania.Use ser for professions
Spanish normally says Soy profesor rather than Soy un profesor when simply stating a profession.

Yo es estudiante.
Yo soy estudiante.
The yo form of ser is soy.

Is ser only used for permanent things?
No. Identity is a better guide than permanence. An event can be temporary and still use ser, while some lasting conditions use estar.
Do professions need an article after ser?
Usually not when simply naming the profession: Soy profesora. An article may appear when the profession is described or identified more specifically.
How do I say where I am from?
Use ser + de: Soy de México or Somos de España.
